
In 1984, fed up with teaching philosophy to disinterested students, unhappy with American consumerism and politics, and dismayed at the values his children were picking up at school and from their friends, Kent and his wife Pam abandoned their comfortable life in a South Dakota college town for life on a sailboat with their two children.
